V3 of API platform streamlines cloud video surveillance application development and AI integrations
AUSTIN, Texas—Sept. 7, 2023—Eagle Eye Networks, the global leader in cloud video surveillance, today launched V3 of the Eagle Eye Video API Platform, which is used by Eagle Eye developers, resellers, and technology partners worldwide. The new API is comprehensive, built for faster implementation of video applications by developers, and builds upon the API foundation of V1 and V2.
Since its founding in 2012, Eagle Eye has been committed to an open platform with a comprehensive RESTful API accessible by all, and extensive camera support. With the launch of API V3, Eagle Eye continues its platform investment for developers to easily create applications leveraging and integrating cloud video surveillance.
“Over the past 11 years, we have learned many lessons about what is needed in a cloud platform for broad video surveillance applications, AI, and operating at scale,” said Dean Drako, CEO of Eagle Eye Networks. “We have incorporated developer feedback, developer requests, integration needs, and large customer requirements to make V3 of our API that delivers even more.”
Eagle Eye will continue to support its V1 and V2 APIs for the foreseeable future, but recommends all new development be done on API V3.
Used by thousands of enterprise organizations across the globe, the Video API Platform and mobile and web software development kits (SDKs) bring cloud video surveillance and AI capabilities to developers for faster development and integration with video surveillance. The API allows resellers and business owners to build custom solutions. Some examples include:
- Hotel management applications integrating video surveillance for accessibility and business management.
- Entrepreneurs developing applications and launching their business on the Eagle Eye Video API Platform speeding their time to market.
- AI experts integrating their AI analysis for customers to obtain their AI expertise.
- Central station software directly taking video feeds and AI from the Eagle Eye Video API Platform.
Some key benefits of the Eagle Eye Video API Platform include:
- Secure OAuth-based cloud authentication to 8,000+ IP camera models with just a few lines of code, including Axis, Bosch, Hanwha, Mobotix, IPro, Vivotek cameras
- Cloud-based AI and video analytics with a simple API call
- RTSP support for recorded and live video
- Easy media integration (HLS, RTSP, MP4)
- 2-Way Audio for bi-directional voice communications
- SDKs for faster integrations on Web, Android, iOS
- Accelerated time-to-market for integrated solutions
- Modern RESTful API
Technology partners say the V3 Video API Platform offers benefits beyond technical ease of use.
“Eagle Eye’s newest Video API Platform is feature-rich and developer friendly, which streamlines even complex integrations, allowing us to bring groundbreaking new capabilities to market in record time,” said Chris Brown, CEO of Immix, a provider of central station and security platform software. “The platform also improves our ability to serve our customers and expedite the onboarding process for their customers, most notably end users with very large camera counts.”
Eagle Eye is exhibiting products and discussing initiatives that demonstrate the power of AI + Cloud for 2023 and beyond for security practitioners, resellers and tech partners in Booth 3925 at the GSX show Sept. 11-13 in Dallas. Demos and meetings with Eagle Eye experts may be scheduled in advance using this link.

Since its inception in the European Union in 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has set a high standard for data protection, demanding transparency, consent, and respect for data subject rights. This legal framework has prompted companies to review and improve their data management practices, as noncompliance carries significant financial penalties.
Recognizing the transformative impact of GDPR on personal data handling, Eagle Eye Networks proactively adapted to support organizations with their GDPR responsibilities. Through constant development and innovation, Eagle Eye provides a range of features that facilitate GDPR compliance while maintaining robust cybersecurity measures.
Here are seven ways in which Eagle Eye plays an essential role in assisting organizations adhere to GDPR guidelines while ensuring effective data protection.
Data encryption
Eagle Eye uses multilayered encryption techniques to safeguard video data. Encrypted data is transmitted to the Eagle Eye Cloud Data Center through an encrypted connection, reducing the risk of unauthorized access and data breaches.
Multi-Factor Authentication and role-based access management

The Eagle Eye Cloud VMS (video management system) offers Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to ensure a person attempting to log in is who they claim to be. Once verified, that person will then only be able to access live and recorded footage and features within the platform necessary to effectively perform their duties. Access is assigned by the designated system administrator and can be based on several factors including the organization’s individual policies and GDPR compliance procedures.
Data retention policies
GDPR requires organizations to store data for only as long as necessary for the specified purpose. Eagle Eye offers flexible data retention policies, enabling organizations to automatically delete video and data after a defined period, aligning with GDPR’s data retention requirements.
Data storage location
Eagle Eye complies with GDPR regulations by utilizing company owned and managed data centers to retain video within the region in which it was recorded. This ensures that video data is processed and retained in a GDPR-compliant manner, even when operating in multiple countries.
Audit capabilities
To maintain accountability and track access to recorded video, the Eagle Eye Cloud VMS keeps detailed audit logs. These logs record who accessed live and recorded video, when, and from where, meaning documentary evidence is available should the actions of an individual or organization need to be reviewed.
Secure sharing
When sharing recorded video with police or authorized third parties, the Eagle Eye Cloud VMS generates secure sharing links with limited access rights. Administrators can set these links to have an expiration date or limited playback capabilities, ensuring that they cannot be misused after the intended purpose is fulfilled.
Data breach notification
In the event of a data breach involving video, Eagle Eye supports organizations in meeting their GDPR obligation to promptly notify the relevant data protection authorities and affected individuals.
While Eagle Eye serves as a valuable tool in achieving GDPR compliance, organizations must recognize that data protection is a shared responsibility. All parties involved in the processing of personal data, including data controllers, data processors, employees, and consumers, bear the responsibility of understanding and upholding GDPR requirements.
This collective effort will nurture a safer and more compliant digital environment, where the protection of personal data is prioritized for the well-being of everyone involved.
The EU’s independent data protection watchdog, the European Data Protection Supervisor, provides additional information, including guidelines and a factsheet for understanding data protection for CCTV video surveillance.

“We host a ton of meetups and events. Every night of the week we have a couple of hundred visitors. That is a big risk there is a lot of stuff that can go wrong. Basically, I can check on everything from my phone or my computer. What’s great about [Eagle Eye Networks’ VMS] is it shows you a little time line so you don’t waste your time. One big influence in our decision to go with Eagle Eye Networks was their CEO Dean Drako’s track record – he was founder of Barracuda Networks, and was their CEO for nine years. He understands security, the cloud, and customer service, and has an impressive background of creating compelling technologies and executing through broad market adoption.”

“We have a gated community, and given my own background in security and software, I knew exactly what I wanted in a security camera system for our entrance and exit. Eagle Eye Networks met my criteria. Eagle Eye not only had the mobile access we needed, but its off-premise recording means we don’t have to worry about anyone tampering with our video evidence. By having the Eagle Eye Security Camera VMS in place, we are offering our residential community a greater feeling of protection.”

“Our Eagle Eye security camera system has 15 cameras across multiple floors of our 50,000 square foot facility. We have had a couple of security related incidents occur and were able to use the Eagle Eye Security Camera VMS to quickly and easily do the forensic search to identify the people involved. Eagle Eye fully encrypts the video, so we know the content is completely secure – this is an absolute requirement for us. Eagle Eye does all the video management, so I can focus on other operations rather than worrying about managing system software or hardware.”
